Turmeric has been long used in medicine.
It is a root containing a yellow pigment, curcumin, which is believed to be a complementary remedy in chronic, inflammatory and degenerative diseases.
It inhibits both COX (cyclooxygenase) and LOX (lipoxygenase), two enzymes that regulate the inflammatory processes.
From the chemical point of view, turmeric is very unstable in water and at intestinal pH, as well as little bioavailable if taken by mouth and rapidly eliminated.
Meriva® Curcumin Phytosome was created to overcome thse problems: a patented compound with 20% curcumin content, obtained from highly purified soy phospholipids (phosphatidylcholine) which act as curcumin carriers in the cell membranes.
In this form, curcumin bioavailability is 10 times higher.
Phytosomial curcumin has proved to be particularly effective in the complementary treatment of osteoarthritis, reducing pain and increasing articular mobility.
Curcuminoids are capable of both preventing and neutralising the formation of free radicals; they have anti-inflammatory and antiphlogistic action against rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, and granuloma.
Curcumin is useful as a support of the hepatic and digestive functions.
Turmeric essential oil has stomatal, digestive and carminative features.
Curcuminoids have good hepatoprotective action, and they also increase the fluidity and secretion of bile, bile acids, bile salts, as well as cholesterol and bilirubin.
Curcumin seems to be involved in the regulation of the mTORc2 receptor, whose activity facilitates cell proliferation and differentiation with an effect of down regulation.
Biocurcuma and Biocurcuma Dol are ideal for facilitating joint wellbeing. They are useful also in the treatment of osteoarthritis, reactive arthritis and myopathies of varying aetiology. Moreover, they can be indicated as a support of antioxidant defences.
